NEBOSH International General Certificate is a globally recognized health and safety qualification Intended for companies or individuals working to achieve international standards with regards to Health, Safety & Environment.
This course focuses on the International Labour Standards (ILO) codes of practice. Upon successful completion of the certificate, delegates can apply for a membership with Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and/or International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) as its qualification meets the academic requirements for Technician Membership (Tech IOSH) of IOSH and Associate membership (AIIRSM) of the IIRSM.
This course is suitable for individuals who aspire to gain health & safety knowledge on how to manage risks and hazards in any area of any business.
It is in the utmost advantage of a company should its staff be NEBOSH certified. Aside from obliging with government requirements and standards, it is important to have staff who knows about management systems and the technicalities in the work environment. This will help preserve the company’s reputation and save unnecessary penalties from any untoward incident.
It is also particularly suitable for individuals who are interested to embark on a career in the Health, Safety and Environment.
The syllabus is divided into 3 units,
(1) Management of International Health and Safety;
(2)Control of International Workplace Hazards; and
(3) International Health and Safety Practical Application.
Each of the first two units is further divided into a number of elements. There are 13 elements which cover a range of workplace hazards and methods of control and are as follows:
1. Foundations in health and safety
2. Health and Safety Management Systems – Plan
3. Health and Safety Management Systems – Do
4. Health and Safety Management Systems – Check
5. Health and Safety Management Systems – Act
1. Workplace Hazards and Risk Control
2. Transport Hazards and Risk Control
3. Musculoskeletal Hazards and Risk Control
4. Work Equipment Hazards and Risk Control
5. Electrical Safety
6. Fire Safety
7. Chemical and Biological Health Hazards and Risk Control
8. Physical and Psychological Health Hazards and Risk Control
The third unit which is the International Health and Safety Practical Application is aimed at assessing a candidate’s ability to complete successfully two activities and they are as follows:
a) Safety Workplace Inspection
b) Report Writing
Candidates should write 2 examination papers; IGC 1 (Management of International
Health and Safety) and IGC 2 (Control of International Workplace Hazards), each lasting 2
hours. QHSE International shall schedule an examination once a month and candidates should inform us if they are prepared to take the exam. Otherwise, the candidate can take more time to prepare himself.
Finally, the candidate should submit IGC 3 (Practical Assessment) which comprises of site inspection and report writing.
Participants must achieve the minimum pass standard in all examinations
and assessment to be awarded the NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
The training is spread over 10 days plus 1 day for examinations. However, we do not limit the number of training sessions. We recognize that different candidates have different learning curve which is why we welcome students to attend as much session as necessary.
